Ayurvedic Dosha Classifications (Vat / Kaf / Pitta)

Vata (Air & Space)

Dry, Light, Cold, Rough

Vata controls movement in the body. Vata-balancing foods are warm, moist, heavy, and oily. Sweet, sour, and salty tastes pacify Vata.

Eat: Cooked grains, avocados, sweet potatoes, warm milk.
Pitta (Fire & Water)

Hot, Light, Sharp, Oily

Pitta controls metabolism and digestion. Pitta-balancing foods are cool, heavy, and dry. Sweet, bitter, and astringent tastes pacify Pitta.

Eat: Cucumbers, melons, broccoli, coconut oil, green leafy vegetables.
Kapha (Earth & Water)

Heavy, Cold, Dull, Oily

Kapha provides structure and stability. Kapha-balancing foods are warm, light, dry, and spicy. Pungent, bitter, and astringent tastes pacify Kapha.

Eat: Quinoa, apples, ginger, garlic, beans, hot spicy soups.

Ayurvedic Gunas (Sattva / Rajas / Tamas)

Sattvic (Pure & Harmonious)

Promotes clarity, mental balance, energy, and peace. Includes fresh, raw, or lightly cooked organic foods, honey, nuts, fruits, and organic dairy.

Rajasic (Active & Stimulating)

Stimulates energy, action, passion, and restlessness. Includes spicy foods, coffee, tea, onions, garlic, chocolate, and strongly flavored items.

Tamasic (Dull & Inert)

Induces sleep, dullness, and heaviness. Includes processed foods, meat, alcohol, stale food, deep-fried items, and highly refined grains.
